Mrs. Barbara Jean Tyre, age 79 of St. Marys, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021, at Southeast Georgia Health System in St. Marys.

Mrs. Tyre was born on June 6, 1942, in Screven to the late Robert and Ella Mae Beckham. Bobbie Tyre was a woman who enjoyed her summer nights on her property in Nahunta surrounded by her friends and family. Another place she loved to be was in the Blue Ridge Mountains and she traveled there often. She enjoyed fishing — however, she would never throw a fish back — camping, boating and sitting in the river allowing the water to flow over her washing her worries away. When not in Nahunta, she enjoyed watching her Western movies with her husband, John Tyre.

She was once a worthy matron of Kingsland Eastern Star. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up and play. Bobbie enjoyed the simple things in life and was the “glue” to the family. She never knew a stranger; she would give her shirt off her back and never ask for it back. She loved her nieces and nephews like they were her own: Denise, Dawn, Bobbie Jo, Rick, Brandy, Sandy, DJ, Kenny, Donald and Tina.“Granny was a sweet woman to her family and friends love, Cheyenne.”

Mrs. Tyre is survived by her husband, John M. Tyre of St. Marys; her daughters, Diane (David) Johnson and Nicy Jean Pritchard, all of St. Marys; her brothers, R.L. (Diane) Beckham of Browntown, Randy Beckham of Blackshear and Ronnie (Maudie) Beckham of Winder; her grandchildren, Van (Emily) Pritchard, Jennifer Pritchard, Kayla Johnson and Haleigh (Jake) Carter; her great-grandchildren, Amber (Michael Lord) Sheffield, John (Tamber) Sheffield, Bethany Sheffield, Hannah Pritchard, Savannah Pritchard, Christina Pritchard, Boe Carter and Cheyenne Carter. Besides her parents, Mrs. Tyre also joins her daughter, Billie Jo Smith, in Heaven.

A visitation was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 22, at Coastal Camden Funeral Home. Funeral services followed at 11 a.m. in the Woods-Wainwright Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Franklin Peacock presiding. Interment will be at Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland. Ricky Beckham, Jake Carter, Van Pritchard, John Sheffield, Michael Lord, Kenny Beckham and Donald Beckham will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be David Johnson, the workers at Kraft Bag and the Eastern Star of Kingsland.

Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland is entrusted with Mrs. Tyre’s arrangements.
