Dr. Dinshaw Bejan Sidhwa, 64, of Kingsland passed away Friday, April 7, 2017, at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla.
Dr. Sidhwa was born Jan. 28, 1953, in Karachi, Pakistan, and moved with his parents to Tanzania, Africa, at the age of 4. Later he moved to England to continue his “A” Levels in preparation for medical school.
Prior to beginning medical school, he also received training and worked as an emergency medical technician. He then moved to Canada to attend McMaster University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree with honors. Following this he attended the American University School of Medicine in Montserrat, then to Chicago for his residency. He was married in Chicago and they moved to Reading, Pa., for an internship and later to practice medicine.
Following the birth of his two children, he and his family returned to Canada to practice medicine. From Canada, they moved to Albany, then Fernandina Beach, Fla. While living in Florida and practicing as an ER physician at Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus, he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, which resulted in a brief time away from medicine.
After a successful stem cell transplant, he returned to medicine gradually by working in hyperbarics at Baptist Hospital and as an urgent care physician at Amelia Urgent Care in Fernandina Beach. In 2009, he came to work at Baptist Primary Care in St. Marys.
He was a private pilot who volunteered for Pilots N Paws, as well as Angel Flights and Mercy Flights. He also volunteered at the Nassau County Health Department. He loved to travel and share his adventures with his friends, family and patients.
He is survived by his wife, Tracey Sidhwa; mother, Dina Bejan Sidhwa; daughter, Michelle Dehn and her husband Charlie; grandsons, Cyrus and Archer; Michelle's mother, Elsa Brelsford; stepdaughter, Jenna Ford; brother, Feroz, wife Marook, nephews Farokh and Danny and niece Lila; and brother Shahroukh, wife Riah, nephews Jahan and Arman and niece Kashmira.
Dr. Sidhwa was preceded in death by his son, Darius Dinshaw Sidhwa, and father, Bejan Dinshawji Sidhwa.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 9, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys. The family received friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services.
